    Great video and advise. This is a trend these days, my vet in Canada asked me to neuter my Xl size male dog when he was 6 months old and tried to scare me by saying that he will be humping and marking in the house, showing aggression and get attacked by other dogs in dog park, not able to go to dog daycare etc. All of above can be fixed by training, no need to alter your dog for dog parks and daycares, both places are not good for dogs anyways. I am from India and neutering a dog was unheard of back home. This is a trend in Western countries and somehow people here think they can work around nature and now they are doing the same with kids under the name of gender affirmation therapy and 9 hours of daycare a day for children under the age of 5 God bless this generation.

    Of course there is less chance of testicular cancer when there are no testicles left! I really struggled with deciding to neuter my puppy for this condition of a retained testicle. I do regret neutering him. The surgery was difficult. His hormone balance is destroyed now and he gains weight at an alarming pace. He even pees like a female now. We are now fighting obesity on very little food. I advise to NOT neuter your normal male dogs. I never neutered my males in the past. They lived a long and healthy life. *BUT all were kept responsibly in fenced yards and never sired any litters.* Responsible dog owners should think long and hard before routine neutering of normal pet males. Working dogs are a different story. But yes, cryptorchidism is a different matter all together. I will never know if I made the right decision. It's a tough call to make. Breeders need to be more conscientious about breeding this defect out of their bloodlines.

      @efrawley55 3 дня назад

      I believe I said in my video to just remove the testicle that has not come down - for the. vbery reason that you bring up. The dog needs the hormones to develop and mature. When I bred dogs, if I produced a pup whose testickle diudbnt come down I always recommended waiting until the dog was @ 2 years old before the surgery - for exactly what your saying. If I missed saying this - my bad.

      I wish I'd had more information before I neutered my boy. If I'd known that I SHOULD leave him intact until at least 2, I would have. I wish my vet would have told me about him needing them for testosterone to grow and mature. But he didn't. 😢. I had him fixed at 8 months old. The only reason I took him in then was because he was attempting to make babies with his sister. I just assumed if he was old enough to recognize she was in heat, then he was old enough to get fixed. Does anyone know if there is a way to give him testosterone until he is matured?? I'm just sick that I screwed my dog up! 😭😭😭

      My Shepherd had an undescended testicle. The smart people on the internet (not vets) said that you shouldn't neuter until 1 and a half years so I waited until 2 years and had him neutered ONLY because the vet said he would have a higher chance of testicle cancer. I asked him (a REALLY good vet), " Really? Is this something that you have actually seen?" He said that, yes he had seen it happen more often with an undescended testicle. Therefore, I did the surgery. The dog's personality and high energy level did not change ONE BIT. He still pees like a boy and his weight has remained the same. I just wanted to share my experience in case it is useful info for anyone.

    I have a Heeler/German Shorthair mix that used to attack me like that. It always happened at the end of a walk and I wondered if he knew this and was trying to prolong our time together. He is now 8 months old and he seems to have out grown this -- or maybe my training is working! It was great to watch this video and find that this behavior is part of the breed. Absolutely love my little dog! He is very smart, loyal, affectionate and ready always to go anywhere. We have travelled long distance with him a few times and I've found all the bonding time together and getting used to so many new things has really helped him be less intense.

    Robert hynes dog training on YT is going after all the big dog training channels calling them out for modern day dog training being a scam. He is claiming that behaviours cant be changed and that positive only only just recruits customers for balanced trainers. He also claimes balanced training is just shutzhund and tool focused and its a cult that has now taken over dog training. He is totally against prongs and ecollars. He does make some valid points and nobody will engage with him for a debate. Id love you guys to check this situation out and point out and maybe give an honest opinion on some of these topics. His main point is nobody cares why a dog acts the way it does and they just shut them down with tools.

I tried positive only with treats, sausages, and ignoring the bad/unwanted behaviour and and it was awful, I'm not a dog trainer but after looking at some of Shield K9 videos to fix the same issues I tried to address with "positive only" training. Today, I am able to walk my German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois off leash with stray dogs barking at them.

    This is disgraceful. I'm a dog trainer myself and I always work with the clients, have insurance and offer a full money back guarantee. I always say if your trainer doesn't do these things avoid them at all costs. So many people who board and train are an absolute nightmare and I've heard some horrific stories from my clients; from dogs ending up with reactivity and fear who were absolutely fine before to dogs getting hit with chains. I have positive only trainers berate me online just for using a choker chain and I laugh and tell them what for because all my training is done with the owner right there watching and most of it in a public place because I don't hide what I do and am not ashamed of what I do. All the dogs I work with are calmer, happy and more confident after I have worked with them. Way to many bad trainers out there taking people's money and getting them no results. It's really sad for the dogs because often when they've gone through a couple of trainers they believe there is no hope, give the dog up and often the dog is put down. Shame on them. You would think that dog trainers get into this business to help dogs but most of them are having completely the opposite effect. If you're not competent as a dog trainer then at the very least understand your limitations and stick to what you are good at and stop destroying the lives of these beautiful animals.

    All positive, no corrections is a recipe for failure (the dogs have since passed 🤎🖤). I bought into it hook line and sinker! I was fully committed to all positive training. I ended up with two dogs who could do all the behaviors I trained them to do but, I couldn't walk them down the street without them dragging me to every person or dog we met. One of them pulled me down 3 times because he never learned how to not pull on a leash, even though I "trained" him with all positive methods. I learned that there has to be a "got to" (corrections) and was fortunate to finally learn how to give effective and appropriate (for the individual dog) corrections to teach what they should NOT do. I defend the use of the prong collar vigorously! The same dog that pulled me down 3X had seizures (relieved by chiropractic) and his vet chiropractor wanted me to use the prong collar to protect his neck from further damage and seizures. Using the prong collar on him stopped the pulling and he only had one more seizure for the rest of his life. We learn as we go.

    Great explanation! I would like to add a caveat to the caveat. If the dog doesn’t comply before levelling up the pressure, it’s always good to remind ourselves to strengthen the behaviour in less distracting environments (eg indoor instead of backyard). One of the most famous border collie shepherds keeps repeating in his book, “if it doesn’t work on the field, don’t increase the pressure, go back to the backyard.” This has become my mantra and so far it keeps me from having to increase pressure.

It takes him about 10/15 minutes to warm up to the person. How or what am I doing wrong? He still shakes when someone comes around. I do keep the person at a distance for safety, I trust my dog not the person.

    @ 02:29 I had to stop watching. Never take your 16 week old puppy around strangers if he barks at them? Only if he is people friendly? I disagree. If you intend on having a socialized dog, you better socialize them and teach them acceptable vs unacceptable social behavior. You want to train this while they are puppies. The earlier they are socialized the better. I can see his point if this is intended to be someone's personal companion / protection dog. If that is the case, the dog should not know there is an outside world beyond the front door and the back yard until the bond is completed and training is progressing well. I do not understand the point he was trying to make.

    • @Sarah-mp5vi
      @Sarah-mp5vi 16 дней назад

      He did not say 'Only if he is people friendly' or words to that effect. From what I have learnt from Leerburg YT and courses, the point he is trying to make is not to take the puppy places where it feels nervous or excited to the extent it reacts on this basis to these stimulus, as opposed to maintaining engagement with the owner. Also to avoid negative situations for the pup while it does not have the ability or confidence to deal with them, instead, helping it form trust in its owner and so it looks for and acts on guidance from its owner in new or challenging situations.This creates a baseline of engagement with the owner by which the pup experiences and is guided through the environment and stimulus in the environment - rather than experiencing the environment and stimuli on their own, reacting to stimuli on the basis of fear, nervousness or excitement, and having to work it out for themselves -high drive breeds don't learn by 'sorting it out for themselves' if they are just left to react they continue to go from 1 -10in a situation of fear of excitement (they act from a basis of fear or excitement not calm and confidence) which can only be temporarily remedied by higher value rewards, training aids and different training tactics. Engagement is the only way to truly be in charge of a high drive breed (or any animal for that matter) when it is an adult and engagement starts in puppy training.

    I’m so happy to hear you talk about not training when you are angry or have lost patience with your dog. No one seems to address this. And I think people are uncomfortable with admitting that training can be one step forward and two steps back at times, especially when you have an independent thinking dog. Putting your dog in the crate and giving yourself a timeout can be very beneficial to you and your dog. 🙂

    I’ve had my husky mix for 9 years since he was 7 weeks old and a 3 year old bernedoodle and they have been raised with cats and never hurt one. A couple weeks ago they killed a squirrel for the first time and then last night they killed our cat we got a year and a half ago. I came home to the cat dead with a broken neck and a traumatizing scene in the room. They never mess with the other cat but they’ve been bullying this one and I thought they were just playing with him. I don’t want to get rid of my dogs but I can’t let them do it to my other cat. I feel like I lost 3 pets last night. I can’t look at them the same and this is killing me. Thank you for warning me what could happen next.

    I have had leather leashes in the past, but like all leather products, there is a bit of maintenance in order to extend the life of the leather (saddle soap, conditioner, etc). I now have a 5' biothane leash for my Rottweiler pup, and it does seem to be strong, sturdy, Oklahoma weatherproof, and requires little to no maintenance. However, it will also cause a rough patch of skin on the edge of my left pinky finger when friction is involved via pulling or corrections. I never had that with leather leashes. I have a 30' nylon leash, but it is way too long and now considering the 20' biothane. Thanks for the informative video!!!

    Yes sir! Agree! Had a Great Dane go after a child once. Well within 3 seconds I had the dog on the ground, on his side and held him in a stress position with the child until the dog stopped resisting. All this was done without the 9 year old kid being bitten. That's how fast I caught and corrected it. Then I noticed when a kid agitated the dog the first thing the dog would do was to look for me! Big indicator and from that moment that dog was NEVER allowed to be alone with kids or around kids without my direct supervision. No kid is getting hurt on my watch!

    I agree with everything u said. I experimented with collars and settled with Garmans Tritronics. But I had no idea this video existed so I ran the gauntlet blind and figured things out. Sometimes I failed but I got back at it. But just two things. Can u educate people on how to properly put the collars on and how tight it should be. Then could you educate people on how long the collars should be on the dog for time wise. Whether u add these to your rules or make a completely separate video, I think average owners/trainers would again benefit from your knowledge. Thanks Del

    Dog owners too often use human emotions to explain what they think drove their dog to do things. Dogs are dogs guys. Stop making excuses for your dogs. Accept n move forward with more training. I am nobody, but this man was 100% correct in my book. And yes that Jack Russel is living on borrowed time! But my question about this vid is this. Are the owners in that house truly safe?

    Walking my German Shepherd, a pit bull flung the screen door open and charged us seemingly out of nowhere. There was no time for any of this and thank goodness I let go of the leash and didn’t impede my dog from defending himself. After a very fast and furious fight, (I’ve never seen anything move so fast in real life), the pit bull was on his back and my dog was holding him there. I called my dog and we left while the pit bull got up and scurried off. From that day on my dog was on the offensive with every dog, even from afar he wanted to fight and lunge any approaching dogs. So yes it ruined him in that regard, so if you have time to react like this video instructs it’s well worth the advice.

    Thanks for doing this video. It’s very helpful seeing the process of your leather products. I never shop at big box pet stores for anything anymore for many reasons. It’s overpriced junk in my opinion. I have one of your 2” wide leather agitation collars and I love it. It’s such quality craftsmanship and buttery soft feeling leather too. I’ll be ordering a leather agitation harness from you next.

    Most dog fights I have broken up have been from people that only use positive reinforcement. People don't understand every dog is different, and some dogs need discipline and structure to live a happy life and not be a danger to those around them.

    I am here because my two female dogs who are siblings were in a bad fight the other one even had deep cuts. They were in heat and I seperated them for a week now. And every time they see each other they just want to kill each other. They are not even leash trained and that's my fault. Does caging them next to each other with half a meter gap work?

      When people have specific training questions we recommend that they go to our website and post those questions in the ASK CINDY on the front page of leerburg.com . Cindy has been training dogs since she was a teenager and has competed in several dog sports at a regional and national level. She was also a vet tech and owned a boarding/training and grooming business for many years as well as breeding working Dobermans and Belgian Malinois under the kennel name Kaiserhaus. Questions posted to ASK CINDY are answered almost every day. They are also recorded in our systems if a dog owner has additional questions Cindy will review the previous Q&As and this helps her give better feedback and assistance. leerburg.com/qa/contact-cindy.php

    I want to be kind to these people, but my blood is boiling. Ducks swim, birds fly and Pitbulls fight. End of story.

    Thank you so much for this video! My German Shepard and Boston Terrier have been with my family for a year and came with an e-collar. I have attempted watching training videos several times and still don't feel ready to train properly with it. I've shared this with my husband and feel justified in my hesitation. I have much dog training to learn before using this Pro Educator.

    I agree completely...fear reactions are so misunderstood. My last vet was dumb and showed their fear and I had a muzzle on my dog. Thanks for reminding me to check the size too.
